Croatia Airlines chooses Recaro for Airbus fleet
Croatia Airlines has unveiled the new look cabins for its Airbus 319 aircraft, featuring leather Recaro BL 3520 seats. Three of the airline's four Airbus 319 aircraft have been fitted with the seats so far, with the fourth due to be equipped in May.
Compared with the previous seats in Croatia Airlines’ aircraft, the Recaro seats, which won a red dot award for design this year, have thinner ergonomic backrests and take up less space, which has allowed for the installation of another two rows of seats in the passenger cabins in each of the aircraft. Therefore, the capacity of each Airbus 319 aircraft has been increased from 132 to 144 seats. In addition to improving the level of comfort on flights in both business and economy classes, the fuel efficiency of the flights has been improved as well.
Right: The airline has also introduced a Flavours of Croatia menu. See the news section for more details
The seats are designed in such a way that passengers have more space for their knees, while the back part of the seat is designed so that standard hand luggage can be placed in the space under the seat in front, and the inflight magazine pocket has been raised to eye level, above the table.
The visual identity of the seats was created by the airline’s designer, Ivana Ivanković Prlić. The seats bear the company’s symbols and are upholstered in high-quality dark blue leather with a woven pattern of sea waves, intended to create an association with the Croatian Mediterranean region. The eco leather has been dyed using top-notch ecological dye which does not contain chrome. On top of the seats are new navy blue leather headrests with an imprinted pattern of small squares, which is a recognisable part of the Croatian national identity, and the identity of Croatia Airlines.
Due to the materials used and the structure, each seat is about 5kg lighter than the previous model, which decreases the total weight of the aircraft and directly reduces jet fuel consumption, which will also help the airline's future participation in the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS).
The replacement of the seats in the passenger cabins of A319 aircraft was carried out in the Croatia Airlines’ hangar at Zagreb Airport. The hangar opened in 2008 and since then has been used for maintenance works on not only Croatia Airlines’ aircraft, but also those of other airlines, enabling the export of the expert services offered by Croatioa Airlines' technical divisions. For example, in 2011 the air traffic experts from Croatia Airlines installed new passenger (EU) seats in Lufthansa's A320 aircraft fleet.
