A taste of Croatia
Croatia Airlines has introduced a new service on its international and domestic flights called Flavours of Croatia, designed to differentiate Croatia Airlines from other airlines by offering specific services and a special approach to passengers. The new service concept will present Croatian gastronomy, and passengers will be offered meals and beverages which represent the Croatian regions.
Over the next two years passengers will have the chance to become familiar with the gastronomy of eight Croatian regions, experiencing the flavours, scents and colours of specialties from each of the regions for a period of three months. This enogastronomic journey starts with Istria and its gastronomy.
The new service concept is primarily aimed at business class passengers on domestic and international flights. The meals are enriched with specific foods from a particular region, as well as wines, aperitifs and digestifs typical of the region that is being presented. Lunch and dinner on flights longer than 70 minutes will comprise two or three dishes, and in addition to the meals, the passengers will be also offered hot towels, menus and wine lists.
Passengers in economy class on international flights will also have the opportunity to experience better quality meals, enriched with ingredients that are characteristic of a particular Croatian region, as well as wines from that area.
Hot meals will be served in newly designed dishes, in line with contemporary gastro trends. On the meal trays, passengers will find gastro motifs of the region being presented – for instance truffles, asparagus, olives, figs, etc – which permeate through every segment of the service.
In presenting Istria and its gastronomy, the airline enjoyed support from the chefs at the renowned restaurant San Rocco in the small Istrian town of Brtonigla. They made a selection of dishes that are specific to Istria and showed the airline's chefs how to prepare and serve them. As for the selection of red and white wines, experts were consulted, especially the distinguished wine expert Saša Špiranec. When presenting Istria, the airline will offer selected wines from renowned Istrian producers – Matošević’s Alba and Kozlović’s Otelo.
Business class passengers will have the opportunity to taste olive oil produced by the Ipša family, and they will be offered aperitifs and digestives made by renowned producer Rossi.
During the boarding process, passengers will be welcomed on board by instrumental music specific to the particular Croatian region, which are the works of conductor and composer Alen Bjelinski, and each gastro region will be presented through articles and pictures in the in-flight magazine Croatia.
During the flight the aircraft’s video system will show a special film about the region which is being presented. Passengers will also be able to find information on the region and its gastronomy in a special brochure. In line with the airline's desire to present the new service concept in the best possible way, the company has given extra training to its cabin crew.
