Innovative lightweight class divider developed

February 13, 2017 – Inter-Informatics Group, a Czech provider of design engineering services, has developed a new class divider for the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 families. Named C-spacer, this lightweight class divider is intended to be located beneath the overhead storage compartments and fixed only to seat tracks. The company claims that the maximum recline of the seat directly in front will not be compromised, while passenger behind will enjoy extra legroom.

“There are almost 3,400 single-aisle aircraft currently in service in Europe with an annual expected growth rate of around 4%. More than 52% of these use a two-class cabin configuration. And all airlines operating such aircraft strive to balance passenger comfort with space saving and the ability to quickly alter the configuration,” explained Radek Režný, aerospace division director at Inter-Informatics Group. “We wanted to address this and help airlines to be more flexible without compromising passenger comfort.”

Style, comfort and simple maintenance
“We have specifically designed C-spacer to bring more comfort to the passenger, while maintaining a 50in pitch between the business and economy class seats,” stated Petr Raška, head of design organization and leader of the C-spacer project.

The C-spacer is interchangeable between left and right, and is designed to be easy to move, set up and dismantle, enabling quick configuration changes, if needed. Airlines can choose from several options including IFE, USB slots, power outlets or an advertising panel. The divider can be manufactured in a variety of colors and surfaces and its composite structure offers strength, flammability characteristics and low weight, and meets all applicable EASA and FAA certification demands, according to the company's engineers.

C-spacer has been shortlisted in this year's Crystal Cabin Awards, and a functional prototype will be introduced to the public for the first time at Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg from April 4-6, 2017.
