Ontario-based Porter Airlines has placed a firm order for 30 Embraer E195-E2 jets, with purchase rights for a further 50, to help meet its plan to extend services throughout North America. The aircraft order will be included in Embraer’s second quarter backlog, and would be worth US$5.82 billion at list price with all options exercised. First delivery and entry into service is scheduled from Q3 2022.
Porter Airlines will be the North American launch customer for the E195-E2, which can accommodate between 120 and 146 passengers (Porter’s configuration plans will be revealed in due course). The E2s will give Porter greater flexibility to introduce non-stop service in markets with relatively low passenger numbers, and to add frequencies on higher demand routes. The airline intends to deploy the aircraft to business and leisure destinations throughout Canada, the USA, Mexico and the Caribbean, from Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax and Toronto Pearson International Airport. Porter says the investment and routes could create as many as 6,000 new jobs.
