Ahead of its expected final type certification and entry into service in 2025, Bombardier has announced that the Global 8000 has reached a new Maximum Mach Operating speed of Mach 0.95 – slightly faster than the previously announced top speed of Mach 0.94.
Bombardier is keen to point out that the Global 8000 can reach the highest speeds in civil aviation and is the fastest-ever business jet. Indeed it is the fastest civil aircraft since Concorde.
“The Global 8000 was already the fastest business aircraft ever built, and with this new speed capability, this incredible aircraft is set to redefine the ultra-long-range market,” said Stephen McCullough, Bombardier’s senior vice president for engineering and product development.
“This achievement underscores the significant contributions of our innovative design, flight test and production teams and showcases their immense expertise, obsession with excellence and unrelenting commitment to push the boundaries.”
Speed is not the only selling point of the Global 8000, as it also has a 8,000 NM range, a smooth ride, and runway performance comparable to that of a light jet. Its unique wing design features leading-edge slats that enable customers to access more airports – up to 30% more airports than its closest rival, says Bombardier.
And of course, the cabin interior is another key element. The Global 8000 will feature four living spaces and a separate crew rest area. It will also feature the longest seated length in its class, and an ultra-low cabin altitude.
