December 9, 2015 – LSG Sky Chefs has opened a new customer service center at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, which will serve more than 500 flights per day. The center will primarily service hub-customer United Airlines, but Alaska Airlines, Copa Airlines, Delta Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Spirit Airlines and Virgin America will also benefit.

“With this major expansion in the Chicago market, we aim at strengthening our presence at this important airport in order to meet the increased demand for ethnic cuisine from the growing number of international carriers flying here,” said Erdmann Rauer, CEO of LSG Lufthansa Service Holding AG.

The building’s construction was undertaken with environmental considerations in mind, in line with LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) standards, one of the most popular global green-building certification programs. According to LSG, the Chicago facility is the first LEED-certified airline catering facility worldwide, including features such as a storm-water recapture system, natural light and LED illumination fixtures throughout the facility. It also utilizes the EnviroPure food-waste disposal system and other energy-efficient equipment.
