Southwest integrates Apple Pay into onboard operations

Global Eagle has integrated Apple Pay into its Airtime Portal, which enables passengers to use one-touch biometric authorised payment methods with Apple Pay-enabled devices. For airlines, this means that passengers can use Face Unlock and Touch ID to easily and quickly make purchases such as inflight wi-fi access. The system has also secured an airline customer with Southwest Airlines.

“We are focused on customer-centred design solutions to enhance the inflight experience. Our Airtime Portal is constantly benchmarked against best-in-class e-commerce platforms to achieve the best payment flow. With the integration of Apple Pay, we are smoothing passenger payment access to key services, quickly, simply and efficiently. We are proud to deliver this service onboard Southwest Airlines, a customer with more than 700 installed aircraft” said Per Noren, president of Global Eagle.
