Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has acquired Aero-Plastics Inc, a US-based specialist supplier of aircraft interior components made from polymers. The acquisition extends Trelleborg’s product portfolio and capacity in the growing aerospace sector.
Aero-Plastics, based in Renton, Washington, is a specialist in precision injection moulding, thermoforming and machining of high-performance polymer materials. The company’s product range includes window reveal and blind assemblies, plus value-added services such as assembly, engraving and specialised painted coatings.
Gordon Roper, president of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions’ global aerospace business unit, said of the deal: “The acquisition further expands Trelleborg’s aerospace offering and product range, while at the same time strengthening our position in thermoplastics and interiors, generating favourable synergies.
“Aero-Plastics is a great fit. Not only does it bring us new capacity and knowledge, it is a business built on the same principles as Trelleborg, delivering growth through strong, long-term customer relationships,” he added.
Aero-Plastics employees were welcomed into the Trelleborg group at a ceremony at the Renton site in April.
The acquisition was made by Trelleborg Group through its Trelleborg Sealing Solutions business subsidiary, with the transaction consolidated on 10th April. Aero-Plastics’ sales in 2024 amounted to approximately 150 million SEK (US$15.56m).
Trelleborg says it has identified that the global aerospace industry is in a ‘significant growth phase that is expected to continue for many years’, which is why the group is actively seeking to expand in the sector.
In 2024 Trelleborg acquired Magee Plastics, a US-based company focused on thermoplastic solutions for the aerospace industry, and announced the development of a new state-of-the-art production facility in Morocco dedicated to sealing solutions for the aerospace industry. The facility is scheduled to be inaugurated at the end of 2025.
