Lufthansa Technik appoints new chairman

At its extraordinary meeting on 2nd April, the supervisory board of Lufthansa Technik appointed Dr Detlef Kayser as its new chairman, taking over from Carsten Spohr with immediate effect. At the same meeting, Thorsten Dirks was elected as a new member of the supervisory board.

The company has not explained the replacement of Spohr, but says that the “change in the supervisory board mandates ensures the necessary intensive steering during this [Covid-19] crisis and maintains the influence and attention of the Lufthansa Executive Board on the most important matters of Lufthansa Technik.”

Dr Detlef Kayser joined the executive board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG on 1 January 2019 and is responsible for the business areas of airline resources and operations standards.

Thorsten Dirks has been a member of the executive board since 1 May 2017 and was responsible for the executive board of the Eurowings airline until 31 December 2019. Since 1 January 2020, he has been head of IT, digital & innovation at Deutsche Lufthansa AG.
