Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico has started operating a third bay, which will be operated as a heavy maintenance line to extend its C-Check and cabin modifications activities at the site.

The company has already scheduled 15 checks in 2016 for the new bay, and 17 for 2017. The bay will also be the second line for Spirit Airlines, with a third standalone cabin modification line for the airline planned to open in September 2016.

“We are proud to have redelivered 33 aircraft to our two launching customers in the first year so far. This accomplishment has only been possible because of the dedicated work of our whole team and the trustful relationship with our customers,” said Elmar Lutter, CEO of Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico.

Further plans include expanding the facility to offer five lines for base and heavy maintenance checks (C-, IL- and D-checks), along with other maintenance work on narrow-body aircraft. In line with this expansion, Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico intends to increase its workforce from 270 employees to 400 in 2017.
