British Airways adds a few sweet treats to its summer inflight service

A few extra inflight treats await passengers with British Airways this summer, including ice-cream, a glass of pre-take off sparkling wine, seasonal menus, and a new ‘Summer Fun’ lineup of family inflight entertainment.

The airline is offering complimentary ice cream on daytime flights departing from London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports before 5pm UK time. British Airways has partnered with British ice cream brand, Jude’s, which will bring in a range of flavours including ‘very vanilla’, ‘strawberries and cream’, ‘truly chocolate’ and ‘salted caramel’.

The treats, produced less than 60 miles from Heathrow in Hampshire, and served in sustainable packaging, will be available over the coming months when travelling in World Traveller Plus (premium economy) and World Traveller (economy).

British Airways is also re-introducing sparkling wine in its World Traveller Plus cabin from mid-July as part of its pre-take off drink offering. For those travelling in Club World (business class), Balfour Rosé de Noirs, an English sparkling rosé made from red grapes will be offered – a blend exclusive to British Airways.

The airline is also introducing a rosé blend for the first time in its First cabin, with Whispering Angel, a producer in Provence, France, supplying its Rock Angel wine with oaky flavours. Customers travelling on short-haul flights can also try Whispering Angel’s Provence rosé as it is available for pre-purchase through the airline’s High Life Café (a rebrand of the Speedbird Café, launching on 20th July).

The airline’s relationship with the vineyard also include plans to open an exclusive Whispering Angel rosé bar at Heathrow Terminal 5.

The inflight menus have also been tweaked for summer. Until September, travellers in first class can choose from lighter dishes including a classic prawn cocktail, grilled fillet of Atlantic halibut and a traditional British summer dessert: berry bread and butter pudding. Customers in World Traveller Plus can enjoy a calamarata pasta followed by a raspberry panna cotta.

Continuing the summer theme, British Airways has brought in a programme of seasonal inflight entertainment (IFE) content, available through its ‘Summer Fun’ category. The category is family friendly, with content including movies such as Mummies, Luca, Avatar: The Way of Water, and a dedicated Barbie channel.

For sports fans, the airline has also introduced a dedicated ‘Women in Sport’ movie category, with a range of sporting highlights, just in time for the football (soccer) summer season.
