Brandon Blackwood creates American Airlines’ latest inflight amenities collection

Brandon Blackwood with his latest creations, designed for American Airlines

Brandon Blackwood is a noted designer to the stars, best known for his handbag and footwear ranges – particularly the signature Portmore handbag. As a high-flying creator of ready-to-wear accessories, he is an obvious choice for American Airlines’ latest inflight amenity kit partnership, which will debut on select flights later this month.

From June until early September, when premium cabin customers on select international and select transcontinental flights with American Airlines arrive at their seat, they will find a complimentary Blackwood-designed amenity kit.

The Premium Economy amenity kit in blue and white is a colourful take on Blackwood’s signature Portmore handbag design

Passengers flying in the Flagship First and Flagship Suite Preferred seats will receive a compact travel version of Blackwood’s Portmore handbag, featuring the same structured design in denim, and a wraparound zip closure.

In the Flagship Business and Flagship Suite seats, customers will receive a black travel pouch with red accents along the zip closure, and Blackwood’s recognisable checkered pattern inside.

Customers in Premium Economy can enjoy an amenity kit featuring Blackwood’s checkered pattern in blue and white on the exterior.

“When this opportunity with American Airlines first arose, I knew I wanted to create designs that were familiar to my brand and could be repurposed as soon as the plane lands,” said Brandon Blackwood. “I travelled a lot growing up, and used a lot of that inspiration in my designs, so it feels like a full-circle moment seeing my bags in flight and bringing innovation and creativity together.”

Heather Garboden, American Airlines’ chief customer officer added, “Brandon’s bold, fashion-forward designs are the perfect addition to our amenity kit collection, especially as we see our premium customers skewing younger, which is in line with Gen Z investing in luxury items and experiences.”
