Emirates makes connectivity personal

Emirates has contracted SITAONAIR to create a personalized inflight connectivity experience through the Internet ONAIR wi-fi hub on board more than 200 aircraft. The project is intended to deliver seamless inflight passenger connectivity and will be integrated with Emirates Skywards, the airline’s loyalty program, to offer benefits to members. This program marks a first step by Emirates to personalize the connected onboard experience.

All users will have access to a complimentary 20MB of data, while Emirates Skywards members will be offered a little more through a wi-fi package that is tailored to their membership tiers and class of travel – and which gives the airline a new means of engaging with them.

According to SITAONAIR, its ‘open platforms’ approach offers a consistent user experience across the various satellite connections and pre-existing onboard technologies across the Emirates fleet, which is unconstrained by hardware suppliers’ refresh cycles.

Dominique El Bez, VP of strategy at SITAONAIR, stated, “With Emirates we have made our open platforms vision, presented at APEX Expo 2016, a reality. This complex digital harmonization project marks a real accomplishment for both SITAONAIR’s digital aviation specialists and our long-standing airline customer and co-creation partner.
