Air France engages the senses with AF001 signature fragrance

Air France has launched AF001, a ‘signature’ home fragrance which will be introduced at the entrance to certain Air France lounges at Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport, to welcome passengers to the start of their journey with the brand. The name AF001 is a reference to the airline’s Concorde flights between New York and Paris in the late 1970s.

Customers will experience the fragrance in the La Première (first class) lobby and lounge areas at CDG, and onboard in the La Première suites, as well as in the lounges located in terminals 2E halls L and M, 2F and 2G. Air France will later introduce the fragrance in its other lounges in Paris and around the world over the coming months.

The airline created the AF001 fragrance in a two-year collaboration with Francis Kurkdjian, master perfumer and artistic director of Maison Francis Kurkdjian. Kurkdjian began his career in 1995, and that same year created ‘Le Mâle’ for Jean Paul Gaultier, one of the world’s best-selling perfumes.

He has also created fragrances for Guerlain, Dior, Armani, Jean Paul Gaultier, Narciso Rodriguez, Elizabeth Arden, Acqua di Parma, Versace, Ferragamo, Lanvin, Van Cleef & Arpels, Elie Saab and Burberry. He was the first master perfumer to open his own bespoke fragrance workshop in 2001.

The AF001 home fragrance is intended to evoke a feeling of space, calm and light, with a comforting musky scent, layered with mimosa from the south of France to add a ‘sunny, natural vibrancy’. The fragrance also includes hints of jasmine and rose, for a delicate floral aura.

“It was the illusion of a ray of sunshine on the wings of an aircraft that inspired me to create this light, fresh and comforting home fragrance,” said Francis Kurkdjian.

Francis Kurkdjian explains the fragrance in the video below.

Fabien Pelous, SVP of customer experience at Air France added, “The Air France travel experience now elevates all five senses: sight, with the haute couture uniforms of our staff, our cabin interiors and the meticulous design of our lounges; taste, with the delicious dishes on the menu on board; touch, with the soft fabrics of our seats; sound, with our playlists on board; and now smell, with this prestigious signature fragrance.”
