Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa trial inflight retail service

Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa are testing the new in-flight shopping platform for passengers. For Austrian Airlines flyers, via FlyNet, the internet portal on board the airline’s Airbus fleet, guests have free access to the SKYdeals shopping platform on board flights within Europe. With one click on their personal mobile device connected to the online marketplace, information such as destination and flight route is transmitted to SKYdeals, and the so-called “shoppertainment” can begin.

Passengers will find a selection of products related to their respective destination or route on the inflight shopping platform, with two categories. The first, named Fly Over, offers exclusive discounts on products typical of the country they are flying over – Swiss chocolate, for example. The second category is Quick Sales/Private Sales, which gives passengers access to exclusive fashion, beauty and accessories offers.

Ordering and payment is contactless, made online directly via the SKYdeals platform. The purchase is then delivered by post to the customer’s preferred address. At the start of the test phase, passengers will receive a FlyNet Mail&Surf voucher after the sale is completed.
