Spirit Airlines becomes first ULCC in the Americas with connectivity

0

Spirit Airlines, an ultra low-cost carrier (ULCC) serving the US, Latin America and the Caribbean, has announced that it will be fitting the Thales FlytLIVE connectivity system across its fleet of A319, A320 and A321 aircraft. Spirit and Thales are partnering to offer Ka-band high-throughput connectivity, with the FlytLIVE service using SES’ and Hughes Network Systems’ satellite network and technology.

Spirit is the first US-based airline to select FlytLIVE by Thales, with the first equipped aircraft scheduled to enter into service by the end of 2018, with the entire fleet operating with FlytLIVE by summer 2019.

Spirit and Thales are also collaborating on optional products and services for the system, which can generate additional revenue and advertising opportunities for the airline. The system also provides bandwidth and session management, operational support tools, maintenance, service and support.
