Bluebox has launched Blueview Cloud, a system for delivering digital services onboard aircraft. The company says the system is optimised for high-bandwidth connectivity solutions, with a software suite hosted on the ground, removing the need for onboard hardware.
One of the aims of Blueview Cloud is to help airlines increase their ancillary revenues and boost their passenger satisfaction ratings. With the system, passengers access a digital portal, with the airline’s branding, directly via the aircraft’s connectivity system. From the portal they can stream film, TV and audio content in an OTT (over the top) style, with studio approvals supported by Bluebox’s security protocols.
Passengers can also order food, beverages and duty-free items from their seats, with live payment authorisation that reduces credit card declines, according to Bluebox. Blueview Cloud can also integrate with loyalty programmes, advertising campaigns and more.
For crew, passenger orders are delivered straight to POS devices with seat-specific details. For airlines, Blueview Cloud is intended to cut onboard hardware costs, accelerate rollouts and open new revenue streams.
“High-bandwidth connectivity changes the game for airlines,” said Kevin Clark, CEO of Bluebox Aviation Systems. “Blueview Cloud makes it possible to harness that connectivity to improve passenger satisfaction and airline profitability, creating better ROI on connectivity investment – without the complexity of additional on-wing hardware.”
Bluebox says its Transition Deployment model allows airlines to equip fleets with Bluebox Wow (a portable wireless IFE box) within weeks, which can then then be upgraded to Blueview Cloud when connectivity is available.
