Neo Space Group (NSG), the Saudi Arabian commercial space services provider, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Display Interactive (DI), a provider of wireless in-flight entertainment (W-IFE) and in-flight connectivity (IFC) systems. The acquisition (subject to customary closing conditions) is intended to strengthen NSG’s position in the aviation market as a provider of multi-orbit IFC technologies, and grow its client list, which currently includes Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines and Uzbekistan Airways.
The relationship between NSG and DI began in 2023 when the companies collaborated on a product development project. The partnership was further strengthened in May 2024 when DI introduced the Skywaves satellite connectivity system in cooperation with NSG.
In this next stage in the companies’ relationship, the acquisition will see DI’s technology and product portfolio integrated with that of NSG, to deliver a unified IFC offer. The plan is to combine intelligent traffic management through the Skywaves software-defined connectivity infrastructure, with a seamless digital passenger experience created via the SkyFly end-user portal, through which passengers can select digital services such as movie streaming and online shopping.
Supported by the SES Open Orbits network, NSG’s system is designed to intelligently route traffic across multiple satellite providers, ensuring uninterrupted, high-speed inflight connectivity. This end-to-end approach simplifies IFC deployment for airline customers.
Martijn Blanken, CEO of NSG, said of the deal: “The IFC sector is evolving rapidly, and remaining competitive requires a strong customer focus, continuous innovation, and adaptability. Acquiring DI strengthens our ability to deliver cutting-edge connectivity solutions while ensuring passengers enjoy an unparalleled in-flight experience with seamless connectivity, high-speed internet, and real-time entertainment, and communication.”
As part of its work to advance the ambitions of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan, NSG is investing in next-generation satellite and digital technologies, while fostering the growth of the national space industry.
Tarek El Mitwalli, CEO of Display Interactive, added: “Joining forces with Neo Space Group allows us to open a new chapter, scaling our technology and expanding our impact in global aviation. Together, we will push the boundaries of innovation and connectivity in the most agile way.”
