SilkAir launches new streaming IFE system

SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, has launched SilkAir Studio, a new wireless IFE streaming system. Complementing the existing overhead system, this new wireless service will provide customers with further options for a more customised IFE experience.

Customers do not need to download a separate mobile app to their device prior to boarding. Once the IFE system is switched on, customers can enjoy the content options on their personal mobile devices, such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets. For flights of more than two hours, tablets will be offered to business customers.

The launch of the system comes after a successful trial conducted by SilkAir on one of its aircraft beginning in December 2013. Feedback from customers was generally very positive, according to the airline, with stable technical performance and operating efficiency recorded.

A wide variety of entertainment options will be offered through SlikAir Studio, including up to 20 Hollywood and international movies, up to 26 short features, and up to 100 musical albums, all refreshed on a regular basis to ensure there is always something new for frequent flyers.
