SAS to fly with HelioJet LED lighting in 2015

Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) has become the launch customer for Lufthansa Technik’s (LHT) HelioJet LED lighting system, designed and developed in cooperation between LHT and Schott. The installation is part of a comprehensive cabin modification programme for seven A330 and A340 aircraft which SAS will carry out over the following months. The system for the SAS fleet will be installed and certified in December 2014, with the first so-equipped aircraft expected to fly in 2015.

One of the main advantages of HelioJet, according to LHT, is that it does not suffer the colour changes that normally afflict ageing LEDs. The latest version, HelioJet SpectrumCC (Color Control) offers a full-colour RGBW (red-green-blue white) LED system. As Dr Armin Plichta, general manager of transportation at Schott Lighting and Imaging explained, “Thanks to an innovative True Color Sensor, each and every LED installed in the system renders colours in a perfectly balanced and homogeneous manner and emits precisely the right colour shade throughout its entire service life.”
