Korean Air, alongside fellow Hanjin Group carriers Asiana Airlines, Jin Air, Air Busan and Air Seoul, is preparing to introduce Starlink high-speed in-flight connectivity across its entire aircraft fleet in every cabin class.
Starlink, which is SpaceX’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite internet service, operates more than 8,000 LEO satellites at approximately 550 km altitude, to deliver peak broadband speeds of up to 500 Mbps. That is fast enough to enable passengers to access seamless entertainment streaming, online gaming, video calls, Cloud-based work, and online shopping and messaging via the in-flight wi-fi system.
All five airlines are due to begin preparation and testing of the systems prior to installations beginning later this year. Rollout schedules will vary by carrier, with the earliest service introduction expected in the third quarter of 2026.
Korean Air and Asiana Airlines will prioritise Starlink installation on its long-haul Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Following the integration with Asiana Airlines, the airline plans to complete fleet-wide installation by the end of 2027. Jin Air will first equip its Boeing 737-8 aircraft, and Air Busan and Air Seoul will review its fleet to determine the optimum priority for installations.
