The fuselage design of the Panda Friends livery features Ocean Park’s IP characters, An An, Ke Ke, Ying Ying and Le Le, alongside the Hong Kong-born giant panda twins — elder sister Jia Jia and younger brother De De. In the artwork, the six pandas set off from Ocean Park with their passports and cameras in hand, taking on the role of tourism ambassadors as they journey around the world with the passengers on board. The first flight was from Hong Kong to Chengdu — the hometown of the giant panda
Officials at the Panda Friends aircraft livery reveal. From second left to second right: Ivan Wong, chief executive of Ocean Park Corporation; Paulo Pong, chairman of the board of Ocean Park Corporation; Raistlin Lau, under-secretary for culture, sports and tourism; Rosanna Law, secretary for culture, sports and tourism; Liu Chun-san, under secretary for transport and logistics; Vivian Cheung, chief executive officer of the Airport Authority Hong Kong; Bruce Wang, chairman of the board of directors of Hong Kong Airlines; and Jeff Sun, president of Hong Kong Airlines
Guests on the first panda flight were given a few novelties to get them in the mood
The first touch of ceremony for the journey ahead. Featuring six giant pandas in playful poses, the boarding pass becomes a keepsake for the trip
The back of the boarding pass is even more playful
Look out: pandas above! Passengers can look up and discover An An, Ke Ke, Ying Ying, Le Le, Jia Jia and De De brought to life across the cabin ceiling and overhead stowage bins, transforming the cabin into an “inflight panda playground” where every angle invites a photo
The soft-touch headrest covers feature giant panda motifs
An exclusive Panda Friends livery has also been applied to the galley carts
Even the paper cups feature panda illustrations
Hong Kong Airlines has also curated a series of Panda Friends collector’s items, co-developed by the airline’s design team and Ocean Park. The range includes the 1:400 and 1:200 limited-edition die-cast aircraft models; Panda Friends cabin crew figurines; Panda Friends Jia Jia & De De eye masks; Panda Friends pilot or cabin
crew luggage tags; and a Panda Friends webbing key chain
