American Airlines is preparing to return its retrofitted Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft into service this summer, which have been equipped with more premium seats, enhanced finishes, more storage space and inflight connectivity systems. The premium class seat count in the retrofitted A319s will increase to 12 seats, and to 16 in the A320s, the seats being redesigned to feature privacy wings, additional storage space, and two cocktail beverage trays.
The A319 and A320 retrofit programmes are part of the airline’s continued commitment to expand availability of premium seating and provide a more consistent design and feel across its mainline and regional fleets.

Both the A319 and A320 fleets will have new cabin interiors similar in design and finish to American Airlines’ newly delivered Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft. The passenger amenities will also be similar, with access to USB-C power outlets at every seat, larger overhead luggage bins, enhanced mood lighting, and updated trim and finish schemes.
Earlier this year, American Airlines introduced a free wi-fi service across its narrowbody fleets, sponsored by AT&T. This will give AAdvantage members access to high-speed connectivity from gate to gate, including on the A319 and A320 aircraft, which will be connected to Starlink services in 2027.

Customers on the A319s and A320s will also enjoy new chef-inspired menus with a 1920s theme to celebrate the airline’s 100th anniversary in 2026, and an upgraded selection of beverages. American has also launched new snacks and meal offerings for customers flying in economy class, including a fruit and cheese tray, roasted turkey sandwich and an ‘Inflight Bites’ box.
