Discover Airlines launches AI-powered storytelling platform

Discover Airlines is the first airline customer for StoryWonder, an artificial intelligence (AI) powered storytelling platform from Spafax that lets flying families create personalised stories for their children before, during and after a flight.

Spafax, an experience service provider (ESP) to airlines, developed StoryWonder together with KB&B Family Marketing, for a target age range of 3 to 13. The platform uses an AI engine that enables customers to generate an individual story with their child in the leading role, delivered as an audio story, a story to read independently, or a bedtime story to be read aloud.

Passengers with a valid Discover Airlines booking receive a link to StoryWonder during online check-in, and a short setup process allows parents and children to choose their own characters, themes, language and destination before they travel.

StoryWonder includes an integrated audio player with a download function

According to Spafax, StoryWonder reflects a wider move in inflight entertainment away from passive, screen-based content toward participatory, personalised experiences.

The integration covers more than 50 Discover Airlines destinations, and children can use the stories to prepare for their trip, learn about the country and its people, and relive the journey after they return home. The StoryWonder interface is available in five languages (German, English, Spanish, French and Italian), while the stories themselves can be generated in 11 languages.

StoryWonder is embedded in the Discover Airlines Customer Experience Platform and connected to the airline’s inflight entertainment guide. On A330 long-haul aircraft with the FlyNet connectivity service, passengers can also generate new stories in flight. An integrated audio player with a download function enables stories created on the ground or in flight to be available offline throughout the journey.

“Flying is already a big adventure for children, and we turn it into a story in which the child takes the leading role,” said Rolf Kosakowski, chief executive of KB&B Family Marketing Experts.

“More than 50 Discover Airlines destinations become an experience: children prepare for their trip through the stories, learn about the country and its people in a playful way, and relive the memories afterwards. This start was made possible by our partner Spafax, and for me it is the beginning of many more airline partnerships to come.”
