Jetstar, an Australian low-cost airline, has ordered 48 Airchair II aisle chairs from UK-based manufacturer Airchair as part of a refresh of its Boeing 787 international fleet.
According to Jetstar, its procurement of the Airchair II forms part of a broader accessibility roadmap that also includes investments in ground services, customer communication, and onboard equipment.
According to Airchair, prior to selecting the Airchair II, Jetstar conducted a comprehensive procurement process, comparing alternative aisle chair models against its existing equipment.
The Airchair II offers a Suddenly Applied Weight (SAW) rating of 250 kg (550 lbs), and its weight of 6.8 kg (15 lb) enables it to be stowed the unit in overhead lockers by cabin crew. The simple design of the chair also means that crews need minimal instruction in its use.
Sarah McOnie, business development director at Airchair, said of the order, “Another high-profile airline has chosen to use the Airchair II. Our belief is that all passenger aircraft should have an aisle chair onboard that truly meets their needs, and Jetstar’s initiative in this area will mean that for passengers flying out of Australia that is becoming closer to reality.”
