Recaro Aircraft Seating has secured a deal to equip American Airlines’ Embraer E175-E1s with R2 economy-class seats. The R2 seat is optimised for use on short- and mid-range flights, and among the reasons for its selection by the airline was its pre-certification qualifications and Recaro’s ability to meet American’s timeline for entry into service this autumn / fall.
The R2 seats, which will be fitted on the American Eagle fleet, will feature tablet holders and six-way adjustable headrests, and will be trimmed with the airline’s signature dress covers, customised to complement the new interior finishes in its Embraer fleet.
“As the first U.S. airline to introduce Recaro seats on an Embraer 175 aircraft, we’re continuing to raise the base for regional travel,” said Rhonda Crawford, SVP of customer experience design and strategy at American Airlines. “Our goal is to deliver the elevated experience customers want, while creating greater consistency across the American travel experience.”

“Seeing our R2 seat enter the U.S. market on an Embraer E175 for the first time with American Airlines is a significant milestone for Recaro and a testament to our team’s dedication and expertise,” added Mark Hiller, CEO of Recaro Aircraft Seating.
