American Airlines has launched its first retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER, fitted the most premium seats to be found on an aircraft operated by a US carrier. The first commercial flight of the updated aircraft was from New York (JFK) to Buenos Aires (EZE) on 2nd September, and the airline’s full fleet of 20 B777-300ERs aircraft will be updated and rolled out on popular long-haul routes to London, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, and Sydney.as the retrofits are completed.
144 premium seats have been installed on the aircraft, including 70 Flagship Suite seats with privacy doors, more personal storage space and a chaise lounge seating position. The Flagship Suites are the business-class option, and the most luxurious option as the previous eight-seat Flagship First cabins are being removed during the retrofits in response to customer demand data.
The B777-300ER also features 44 Premium Economy seats, in a new style with sculpted headrests, adjustable calf-rests and footrests and more storage space. A further premium option is the 30 extra-legroom seats in Main Cabin Extra.
Elevated interiors
The retrofit work does not just involve removing seats and installing new models. The cabin interiors on the Boeing 777-300ER have also been updated to bring them in line with the designs of the premium-configured American Airlines Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft that debuted last year. Customers in every class can enjoy luxury textures, enhanced cabin lighting and other functional comforts.

The end-to-end Flagship experience
Customers traveling in the Flagship cabin can enjoy priority access to the check-in, security, boarding and baggage handling processes. Once at the airport, customers can also access the Flagship lounge, where available, and enjoy a variety of wines, spirits and chef-curated dishes. American also recently announced expanded access to its premier Flagship Dining experience to all Flagship customers.
Once on board, Flagship Suite service includes an multicourse dining experience with wine pairings, premium amenity kits, and luxury bedding including a mattress pad and cool-touch dual-sided pillow.
Premium Economy customers can enjoy a little more comfort and privacy than in economy class, along with wireless charging, a bottle holder, and USB-C and AC power sockets. Customers traveling in the Main Cabin (economy class) can access hundreds of entertainment titles via the latest seatback inflight entertainment technology.

The airline’s AAdvantage members can also stream content, work and stay online from gate-to-gate as every Boeing 777-300ER is being equipped with free high-speed inflight Wi-Fi, sponsored by AT&T.
As American Airlines rolls out its Flagship Suite product, Flagship First will no longer be available for purchase on its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft for travel beginning 19th November. And with more Airbus A321XLR aircraft entering American’s fleet, Flagship First will no longer be available for purchase on transcontinental routes for travel beginning 28th March, 2027.
