Eng. Yaqoob Al Kiyumi has begun his role as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of SalamAir, tasked with continuing the growth and development of the Oman-based low-cost carrier.
Eng. Yaqoob has nearly 29 years of leadership and management experience across Oman’s energy and industrial sectors, including energy advisor at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, advisor to the group CEO at Nama Holding, and CEO of the Oman Power & Water Procurement Company, as well as leadership roles with Sohar Aluminium, OXY Oman, and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).
His initial focus at SalamAir will be on engaging with the airline’s staff, gaining a deeper understanding of the business, and working closely with teams across the organisation to build the airline.

SalamAir has been working to expand its network and operations, supported by a modern fleet of 18 Airbus A320 Family aircraft. Eng. Yaqoob will oversee the next phase in the airline’s strategy, with a focus on sustainable growth, expanding connectivity into new markets, improving the customer experience, and continuing to contribute to Oman’s tourism industry and economic development.
These initiatives come at an important time for Oman’s wider aviation sector, as the country’s National Aviation Strategy 2040 nears implementation. Aligned with Oman Vision 2040, the strategy places greater emphasis on developing aviation as an integrated economic and development ecosystem, strengthening air connectivity and increasing collaboration across the sector.
“SalamAir has an important role to play within Oman’s aviation ecosystem. Our growth is not only about adding aircraft or destinations; it is about creating greater connectivity for Oman, supporting tourism and opening new opportunities for people and businesses,” said Eng. Yaqoob.
“The next phase also presents an important opportunity to work even more closely with our partners across the aviation ecosystem. Through greater collaboration and alignment, we can build on our respective strengths and contribute collectively to the ambitions of Oman’s National Aviation Strategy 2040,” he added.
A good first day in the new job
Commenting on his first day as CEO of SalamAir, Eng. Yaqoob said: “I am very pleased to begin my journey with SalamAir and, most importantly, to meet and work alongside the people who have built this airline into what it is today. SalamAir has achieved significant growth in a relatively short period, supported by the commitment, energy and hard work of its people.
“My priority is to listen, learn, and work closely with our teams as we build on these achievements and prepare SalamAir for its next stage of growth. As we approach our 10th anniversary, it is an important moment to reflect on how far the airline has come and, more importantly, look ahead to what we can achieve together,” he stated.
“We have a strong foundation and an exciting future ahead, with opportunities to expand our network, enhance the experience we offer our customers and continue making travel more accessible to the communities and markets we serve.”
