Thai Airways has become the first airline to commit to line-fit installation of the Skywaves in-flight connectivity solution from Neo Space Group (NSG) on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. All 34 of Thai Airways’ new Boeing 787 aircraft will be delivered with NSG’s multi-orbit IFC system installed at the factory, enabling inflight broadband speeds of up to a claimed 200 Mbps.
NSG Skywaves uses SES’s Open Orbits network, combining Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) for low-latency, high-speed performance with Geostationary Orbit (GEO) for global coverage. The system integrates the ThinKom Ka2517 antenna, a multi-orbit technology deployed on more than 1,700 aircraft worldwide.
“This milestone demonstrates the confidence of a leading international carrier and highlights NSG’s ability to deliver advanced, line-fit connectivity on one of the world’s most significant aircraft platforms,” said Tarek El Mitwalli, EVP business aviation at NSG. “With over 1,000 Dreamliners in service globally, this achievement marks a major step in NSG’s international growth.”
The contract builds on an existing partnership between NSG and Thai Airways, which began in 2024 with retrofit installations on the airline’s Boeing 777 fleet. The collaboration also extends to the airline’s Airbus A321neo aircraft through the HBCplus programme with Safran Passenger Innovations, with the first A321neo featuring NSG Skywaves expected to enter service in early 2026.
