Aviation Technology, a provider of aircraft maintenance, inspection and aviation support services for business aviation, has launched a dedicated aircraft interiors division for the business aircraft sector. Rather than building a cabin interiors division from the ground up, Aviation Technology decided to acquire an operation with the required infrastructure and an experienced team already in place.
The division, named Aviation Technology Interiors, has been created through the acquisition of a 10,000-square-foot turnkey interiors facility located at Anderson Municipal Airport (AID) in Anderson, Indiana, USA.
Aviation Technology Interiors will operate from the fully operational facility, which has been designed specifically for aircraft refurbishment and customisation work. The terms for the acquisition of the facility included its production equipment, specialist tooling, woodworking facilities, dedicated paint booth for aircraft interior component refinishing, inventory, finishing equipment, and all other operational assets necessary to begin servicing aviation customers immediately.
Expanded footprint and capabilities
The company says that the addition of these capabilities addresses a growing industry need for streamlined project execution. Aircraft owners and operators often coordinate aircraft maintenance events and interior upgrades through multiple vendors, which can create scheduling challenges, communication gaps, increased logistics factors, and extended aircraft downtime.
According to Aviation Technology, by integrating interiors capabilities into its service portfolio, it can offer customers a broader range of services, from complete inspections, to maintenance, avionics upgrades, and cabin refurbishments, which can reduce aircraft downtime and simplify project execution.
The launch of Aviation Technology Interiors also expands the company’s geographic footprint into the Indianapolis market, and strengthens its regional service capabilities.
For larger inspections, maintenance events, or heavy maintenance projects, Aviation Technology can coordinate interior refurbishment work alongside maintenance at its headquarters located at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) in Kentucky.
An experienced team
Leading the division is General Manager Gary Lykins, an aircraft interiors professional with 19 years of industry experience, most recently at Indy Jet Services based at Anderson Municipal Airport. Lykins will lead a team of interior specialists with nearly 50 years of combined expertise in aircraft cabin refurbishment, including complete interior transformations, custom upholstery, cabinetry, wood veneers, interior restorations, and cabin customisation for business aviation.
