PPG to expand its aerospace transparencies site in Alabama

PPG’s Solaron Blue Protection window technology blocks over 99% of UVA and UVB radiation, and 40% to 50% of high-energy visible (HEV) blue light

PPG is investing US$70 million to expand its facility in Huntsville, Alabama, USA, which manufactures aerospace transparencies such as aircraft cockpit windows and passenger windows. The investment is part of a series of multi-year projects at PPG aimed at increasing production capacity and growing its aerospace transparencies business.

The expansion includes the lease and build-out of a new 112,000-square-foot facility that will be used for production support, adding additional manufacturing space at PPG’s existing aerospace transparencies facility in Huntsville, which has been in operation for more than 55 years.

“Demand for aerospace transparencies continues to grow across commercial, military and general aviation markets,” said Francois Buehlmann, PPG’s general manager for aerospace transparencies. “This expansion increases our operational efficiency, provides room for future equipment investments, and reinforces our long-term commitment to serving customers and investing in Huntsville.”
