Aeroméxico adds a taste of modern Mexican culture to its dining experience

Aeroméxico is bringing in more than 15 new dining and glassware pieces for Premier One during 2026

Following the introduction of cabin upgrades across the fleet, including seating, textiles and bedding, Aeroméxico has been cooking up new ideas for its business-class dining experience. The new experience is centred around a new dining and glassware collection for Premier One class on its Boeing 787 fleet, designed in collaboration with the NewTerritory studio.

The collection has been designed with the brief of expressing a sense of modern Mexico, fusing Mexican traditions with the needs of onboard catering services.

More than 15 dining and glassware pieces have been created, including plates, bowls, glasses and mugs, with very curve, texture and colour chosen to reflect Mexican heritage. The porcelain pieces subtly reference Mexican ceramics, drawing on the reds of terracotta and the deep blacks of Oaxacan clay. Passengers may notice some slightly irregular forms in the items, and that is quite deliberate, as those forms are a nod to traditional hand-crafted ceramics.

A fun touch is the blue-tinted glassware, inspired by the traditional way that some tequila bottles are made from recycled glass, a production process which naturally takes on a blue hue and delicate air bubbles.

Nadja Orwell, director of client partnerships at NewTerritory, said of the design, “The design philosophy draws directly from the Milpa, celebrating harmony, sharing and informality. It reframes business-class dining not as a transactional service, but as a cultural moment, one that reconnects a 90-year-old airline with the living, evolving spirit of modern Mexico.”

The collection is visually pleasing, but that is only half of the design task. The items have to meet the needs of the airline for light weight, and practicality in service, so NewTerritory specified lightweight materials and space-saving designs for the dining and glassware.

Antonio Fernandez, VP of product and onboard services at Aeroméxico stated, “Over the last several years we have built consistent, modern hard products with beautiful cabins, great seats, and a refined brand image. To complete this onboard concept, we needed to relaunch our soft products in a way that brings Mexico’s culture and hospitality to life.

“This new 15-piece collection designed with NewTerritory does exactly that. It reflects modern Mexico in the air, while also future-proofing our service moments and improving efficiency through smarter, lighter, and more sustainable design. It complements the work we’ve done on our crew uniforms, ensuring every detail of the Aeroméxico experience is part of one bigger, cohesive design story.”

Read more about NewTerritory’s approach to design and why the studio believes airlines need to be more than just transport providers: they also need to be hospitality providers.
