Satellite communications company, Viasat Inc., has expanded the scope of its European Aviation Network (EAN) to include Serbia. This network enhancement, delivered in partnership with Deutsche Telekom, is claimed to improve in-flight connectivity (IFC) performance for airlines and passengers flying through Serbian airspace on EAN-equipped aircraft.
EAN is the world’s only connectivity network that integrates S-band satellite coverage with a complementary ground component (CGC) network. EAN, part of Viasat’s aviation portfolio, is designed to meet the challenges of delivering low-latency inflight broadband services amid Europe’s congested airspace and frequent aircraft manoeuvres.
According to Viasat the expanded coverage is enabled by the activation of new ground stations, which will benefit inflight connectivity services on flights over the region, including to and from the Balkans, and from Germany and western Europe into Greece, among other routes.
“As passenger demand for high-quality connectivity continues to grow across Europe, we are proactively enhancing the network to ensure a consistent, high-performance experience,” said Don Buchman, president of Viasat Aviation. “The addition of coverage over Serbia improves a key traffic corridor.”
