Flydubai has opted for Panasonic's Astrova IFE systems

Dubai-based airline, Flydubai, has selected the Astrova in-flight entertainment (IFE) system from Panasonic Avionics for installation on the 30 Boeing 787-9s the airline has on order.

The Astrova systems will feature 4K OLED HDR10+ displays in various monitor sizes throughout the aircraft, including 22-inch screens in business class. The systems will also include premium audio powered by Bluetooth technology, USB-C outlets for up to 67 W of power at every seat – sufficient for fast charging of phones, laptops, and other personal electronic devices. Astrova also features programable LED lighting.

Flydubai will also use Panasonic’s Converix system, an open and neutral application hosting platform, for non-safety critical services in the aircraft. On each Flydubai aircraft, Converix will support all of the IFEC integration, cabin and galley operations, lighting and other in-cabin applications. Flydubai will also be able use the platform to monitor aircraft data, improve crew operations, manage cabin inventories, and optimise aircraft maintenance.

Panasonic will also provide Flydubai with a selection of digital services, including ZeroTouch, an advanced content delivery system that automates the loading of digital content and software across the fleet.

The agreement was announced at the Dubai Airshow by (from left to right): Daniel Kerrison, SVP, Flydubai; Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO, Flydubai; Ken Sain, CEO, Panasonic Avionics; Hernan Abbes, VP of global sales, Panasonic Avionics
