Skyted, the deeptech startup that is developing silent and confidential voice communication devices, has signed an exclusive agreement with Safran Passenger Innovations (SPI), a supplier of in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) systems. The deal will see Skyted’s silent call technology integrated into SPI’s RAVE IFE systems, enabling secure and confidential inflight calls.
Skyted technology captures voice output at its source and limits its diffusion in noisy environments (such as an aircraft cabin), enabling confidential conversations to be conducted on board via the IFE system without disturbing other passengers, reducing the need for cabin crew to remind passengers to speak more quietly.
The agreement forms part of SPI’s drive to partner with breakthrough technologies via its RAVE Open Platform. The Open Platform enables new technologies to be embedded seamlessly within the RAVE IFE system.
“As truly broadband connectivity grows in the market, SPI’s goal is to bring airlines new digital experiences that anticipate future passenger needs and support the connected environment. Integrating Skyted’s technology introduces a truly disruptive onboard capability: silent, confidential communication that fully preserves cabin quietness and supports an office in the sky,” said John Andrews, SPI’s VP of business development.
“What if 300 passengers could make a call in an aircraft at the same time?” added Stéphane Hersen, CEO of Skyted, who previously worked at Airbus. “With Skyted, this scenario becomes real: speak softly, be heard clearly even on confidential matters, and do not disturb passengers around you.”
Skyted is backed by Airbus Développement, the European Space Agency (ESA), and ONERA.
Skyted was a finalist in the 2023 Crystal Cabin Awards, a finalist in the ‘Best Customer Journey Experience’ special category of the 2024 Crystal Cabin Award, and is shortlisted in the Breakthrough Startups category of the 2026 Crystal Cabin Awards.
